THE ORIGIN OF A PERSON
By Dr. Alvin R. Mahrer

In this book Dr. Mahrer writes;

"... the origin of a person lies largely in the parents who create and give meaning to the infant-child."

 "... one way the parent can do this is by creating, seeing, describing, fashioning the infant into being a particular way so that the parent can undergo an experiencing it is important  for the parent to undergo. If the baby is like this, the parent can feel like that."

"A mother is constructing, creating, and building the infant when she describes her infant, when she thinks of her infant and when she talks about her infant..... In any case, in the experiential view, a mother's description goes a long way in constructing her baby, whether or not they are accurate, realistic or unrealistic."
